PARISH MISSION - March 1-4, 2015
This year Fr. Brian Fischer gave our parish Lenten mission. Fr. Brian is the former Director of Liturgy at Mundelein Seminary, the graduate school of theology for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Year four of the Archdiocese of Chicago Strategic Plan has been designated as the Year of the Sacraments. Throughout the year, there have been various initiatives that seek to help us come to a better understanding of the meaning of the Sacraments and how the Sacraments are meant to transform our lives. In that spirit, Fr. Brian in a series of four conferences, sought to give us a broader understanding of the role of the Sacraments in the Church and in our individual lives. The overall theme of the mission was: Finding Christ in the Place Where He Dwells: Reconsidering Sacraments and Sacramentals. On Sunday night, the mission theme was: The Sacramental Impulse: The Sacramentality of the World. On Tuesday night, the mission theme was: The Promise of the Sacraments: The Sacramentality of the Christ. On Tuesday night, the mission theme was The Seven Sacraments: The Sacramentality of the Church. On Wednesday night, the mission theme was: The End of All Sacraments: The Sacramentality of Heaven. PARISH MISSION 2017
For Lent of 2017, we decided to do our parish mission differently than we have done it in the past. Instead of having the mission on four consecutive days, we decided to do it on four consecutive Sundays. Also, instead of having one presenter for the entire mission, we decided to have four different presenters using our parish staff. On the first Sunday, Fr. Paul Wachdorf spoke on prayer and looked at two different understandings of prayer, what should motivate us to pray and helpful hints to developing a habit of regular prayer. On the second Sunday, Fr. Brian Fischer spoke on how to pray the Mass and not just attend the Mass. On the third Sunday, Sr. Regina De Vitto spoke on everyday discernment and its importance in the life of a disciple of Jesus. On the final Sunday, Joseph Malham, one of our artists in residence, spoke on The Mountain and the Cloud: Prayerfully Entering Into the Mystery of Icons.
